Whilst most of us have settled into a quieter life of working from home and living locally, we're starting to see the green shoots of recovery in the sustainable transport arena. Cities around the world are reclaiming space from motor vehicles. Will it blossom into the 'Active Travel Spring'? Brighton & Hove has been an early leader with a scheme in place from 20 April, and London has emerged as a global leader among the C40 cities. Bristol has just announced it will implement pedestrianisation plans that campaigners have been pushing for for a decade!
We at Act TravelWise aim to keep our members and partners abreast of these developments and in a strong position to take action locally. We've already held three webinars since the lockdown began, and all of the recordings and presentations are available in the members' area of our website.
Our upcoming webinars and web meetings:
• COVID-19 Webinar: Key Worker Transport, with First, Zeelo, Enterprise Car Club and Cyclehoop on Wednesday 27 May, 2 pm
• Act TravelWise AGM & Pan-Regional Web Meeting, on Tuesday 16 June, 2 pm
• COVID-19 Webinar: Impacts on Transport Emissions and Air Quality, with David Carslaw of Ricardo, Greg Archer of T&E and Dr Rachel Nethery (invited) of Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, on Thursday 18 June, 2 pm
Places are filling up quickly (capped at 100), but if they're sold out, join the waiting list and you'll still be sent the recording and presentation PDFs afterwards.
The webinars are not funded or sponsored, so if you're not already a member, we would really appreciate your support. We're offering a half price first year membership for local authorities as part of our 2020 membership drive. That's just £187.50! It's easy to join and you can do this by completing our Membership Form.
Today, registration for TravelWise Week / European Mobility Week has opened! Any local authority or organisation with an interest should register, regardless of any concrete plans at this stage.
Other plans are afoot! If you have ideas for webinars or wish to lead one yourself, or if your company would like to sponsor one or more webinars or e-bulletins, please do get in touch. Thank you for reading!
