Welcome

Hello and welcome to our February e-bulletin.

Kicked off with a very sucessful Annual Conference on 17 January (see News item below), our 2017 training and event programme is now underway with two events open for registration: 'Mobility as a Service: How Changing Technology Could Benefit Accessibility and the Economy' (30 March) and 'Travel Planning for Development Sites' (25 April). These events are featured below. Those interested in hosting or delivering future events - please get in touch.

We've got four regional meetings to announce in this issue, and more to follow in the spring once dates are confirmed. These are great to attend for sharing good practice in the region and making local contacts. If you're a member and not receiving regional invitations directly, do get in touch.

As our NHS Travel & Transport Managers' Forum has been officially launched after building itself up over the last year, we have now held the first meeting of our Business Forum as well. (More news on that next month.) It has been suggested that a Higher Education Forum is lacking, although a travel and transport forum exists within the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC) and our Scotland regional meetings are held jointly with this group. For info on EAUC's two upcoming conferences on 22 Feb (Scotland) and 28-30 March, go here.

If you're not already an Act TravelWise member, it's easy to join and you can do this by completing our Membership Form found on the website. Among other benefits, membership gives you a free place at all of our events throughout the year. You also get 20% discounts on registration at our partners' events (four are listed in this issue).

We encourage you to send in your news, job postings and event listings for future issues of the monthly e-bulletin. Just email them by the end of the month. This is a free service for members (£100 per item for non-members), reaching over 4,000 people. Also anyone may submit email addresses that you'd like added to our e-bulletin distribution list here.

Access Fund: Funding Decisions 2017 to 2020

The Department for Transport announced its selection of recipients for Access Fund and related grants on 26 January. The full outcomes can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/access-fund-funding-decisions-2017-to-2020

Congratulations to those who were successful. For those who were unsuccessful this time, Act TravelWise has resources available from the DfT on economic appraisal of active travel projects. These are available to members and may help improve your proposals for the next opportunity. They are equally useful for LEP funding opportunities.

Act TravelWise would also like to play a role in e.g. fostering communication and co-ordination at the regional level among project managers of Access Fund projects, and with training for those new to running this type of project. A special three-year discounted membership arrangement has been set up for Access Fund recipients who are not already Act TravelWise members.

Please contact Randall Ghent at randall@acttravelwise.org for details on any of the above points.
