Thanks to everyone who contributed to the success that was TravelWise Week 2019, our annual campaign in line with the dates and theme of European Mobility Week. In this issue you can read about how participation more than doubled and how we'll be giving awards to the most successful campaigns. Speaking of campaigns, not only is it Liftshare Week but it's also Walk to School Month!

Now we're building up to our Annual Conference & AGM, taking place 30 January in Birmingham with the theme 'Sustainable Transport for 2020 and Beyond: From Town and City Centres to the Suburbs' - emphasising the need for different strategies to address the needs of town and city centres vs inner and outer suburbs. The call for papers deadline is 31 October. We're seeking sponsors and exhibitors, and registration is now open! All of the info is here.

In the meantime, you can sign up to attend our London/South East event on 'Developing Cycling & Walking Networks' taking place on 28 November, along with the other events listed in this e-bulletin. And look out for more events to be announced soon.

Those of you who are Act TravelWise members in the public sector and interested in attending 'Smarter Tomorrow' (Liverpool, 22-24 October) should get in touch as WSP has some sponsored free places available.

If you have ideas for other events/training or wish to lead one yourself, or if your company would like to sponsor one or more events or e-bulletins, please do get in touch. Don't forget to check out the Featured Jobs (sidebar at left) and thank you for reading!

Our Member Login Area on Acttravelwise.org is now populated with scores of guidance documents, conference presentations and other resources made available exclusively to members. TravelWise Week 2019 Report and Awards

Congratulations to all the local authorities that took part in TravelWise Week / European Mobility Week 2019. This was the year when the UK campaign turned the corner and the single figure number of participating towns and cities more than doubled.from 7 to 16. The participating local authorities are listed here.

World wide the number topped 3,000 for the first time with 3,133 in total. In the UK there was a significant increase in smaller towns and a headline grabbing 12 miles of car free roads in London including over Tower Bridge. Birmingham planned the closure of the iconic Aston Expressway, and Aberdeen celebrated 10 years of car free day in the North East of Scotland. Smaller towns also joined in with St Andrews participating for the third time, Worcester, Bath, Milton Keynes, Exeter and Gloucester, while Oxford Brookes University joined in with a 'mobility action'.

The TravelWise Week Awards will be announced soon with a city and small town award. For the main award, shortlisting will focus on places that have carried out the full range of activities (a week of activities, implementation of permanent measures and a car free day). Smaller towns will be judged on their activities or car free day only.

The awards will be presented at the Act TravelWise Annual Conference on 30 January 2020.

The work starts now for a big response in 2020. We are aiming for over 30 local authorities. Express your interest now. Contact Don Kent at [email protected] or on 07931 978771. More information can be found at /travelwise-week/
