Welcome

Hello and welcome to our April e-bulletin.

There's a lot happening throughout the spring here at Act TravelWise, as you'll see from the News and Events below. We'd like to highlight the work to create an NHS Travel & Transport Managers' Forum, with an initial meeting on 12 April. Any relevant contacts appreciated.

There's also quite a bit happening to support our members with funding bids for the Access Fund, with a workshop in Manchester in June and an effort to bring people together for a consortium bid.

Our work on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) continues, and the presentations from our recent workshop in Milton Keynes attended by 60 delegates are now available for download here.

All of our own training events are free for members sending one delegate, and our partners' events have discounted rates, as part of our effort to ensure that membership is excellent value for money.

We're very pleased to announce a re-launch meeting for the Yorkshire & The Humber regional group, to be held on 10 May in Leeds after a period of dormancy. Members in the North West and North East will soon here about similar meetings. All are welcome and regional meetings are free of charge. Please note that regional meetings and job postings are now found in the sidebar of the e-bulletin.

We encourage you to send in your news, job postings and event listings for future issues of the monthly e-bulletin. Just email them by the end of the month. This is a free service for members (£100 per item for non-members), reaching nearly 4,000 people. Also anyone may send in any email addresses that you'd like added to our e-bulletin distribution list, to enquiries@acttravelwise.org.

European Mobility Week 2016 - Theme & Resources

European Mobility Week returns in September 2016 (16-22 Sept), and now is the time to start organising local campaigns!

A newly released Communications Toolkit available at http://www.mobilityweek.eu/resources/design-resources/ provides all the logos, graphics, templates and guidelines that you may need. You can also find 'best practice guides' with case studies from local campaigns in 2015 and previous years at http://www.mobilityweek.eu/resources/.

When commiting to local activities, please contact the UK National Co-ordinator, Don Kent, on 07931 978771 or don@acttravelwise.org to let him know about your plans. Also contact Don if you've never done this before and would like some tips, hints and guidance.

The theme for the 2016 is 'Smart and sustainable mobility - an investment for Europe', referring to the close links between transport and economics. Under the call to action “Smart Mobility. Strong Economy”, this year’s theme points out that smart planning and use of transport will save cities and residents money and support the local economy.

The awards ceremony for the European Mobility Week 2015 Award was held on 20 April 2016 in Brussels. Nottingham was among the 10 cities across Europe that were shortlisted. Murcia (Spain) was the winner, with Lisbon (Portugal) and Palma de Mallorca (Spain) as runners-up. The three Iberian cities were recognised as having performed exceptionally well in promoting multimodality, in line with the 2015 theme ‘Choose. Change. Combine.' More information here and here.

“It’s good to see Nottingham in the top 10 cities for this award," said Nottingham Councillor Nick McDonald, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Growth and Transport. "Of course, it would have been nice to win it, but we were up against cities across Europe and to be in the top 10 says a lot of about our commitment to sustainable transport and quality of our mobility offer.”

NHS Travel and Transport Managers' Forum - 1st Meeting - 12 April 2016

This meeting is an opportunity for NHS Travel and Transport Managers (and those in similar NHS roles) to meet each other and decide how to build an ongoing forum to share knowledge, experience, skills and best practice specific to the health sector.

The idea for the meeting arose from demand from Act TravelWise members in the NHS who believe that such a forum would be extremely useful.

The meeting will be hosted by Act TravelWise Vice-Chair Jon Foley at the offices of BuroHappold in London on Tuesday 12 April 2016 from 1 pm to 3 pm.

There will be call-in facilities for those who cannot be phyiscally present.

Those who are in the NHS themselves or have relevant NHS contacts are encouraged to spread the word about this initial meeting. Please contact randall@acttravelwise.org if you would like to attend, and also send him names/emails of relevant NHS contacts.
