Welcome

Hello and welcome to our December e-bulletin.

With just one month to go, now's the time to register for our Annual Conference & AGM titled 'Sustainable Travel in a Changing World' taking place in Birmingham on 17 January, sponsored by SYSTRA (formerly JMP). There's also one stand space left for exhibitors.

Our 2017 training and event programme (now seeking sponsors) will be announced at the conference. Those interested in hosting or delivering events - please get in touch. You'll also notice two calls for papers in this e-bulletin, for TPM and ECOMM 2017. The deadline for the latter is tomorrow, 16 December.

We've had some great regional meetings recently, after re-launching some dormant regions - with a record 35 participants at the Yorkshire & The Humber meeting in Leeds on 7 December. We're now looking forward to the North West meeting on 19 January and others in the works.

If you're not already an Act TravelWise member, it's easy to join and you can now do this via the Login/Join link at the top of our website. Among other benefits, this gives you a free place at the Annual Conference.

We encourage you to send in your news, job postings and event listings for future issues of the monthly e-bulletin. Just email them by the end of the month. This is a free service for members (£100 per item for non-members), reaching over 4,000 people. Also anyone may submit email addresses that you'd like added to our e-bulletin distribution list here.

Member Survey 2016 Completed

A big thanks to the 30 respondents to our 2016 member survey, which included lots of useful positive and constructive feedback that will go into improving the membership offer and activities in 2017. The survey responses also helped by providing lots of evidence to underpin plans for 2017.

For example, the lack of activity in some regions is being addressed by re-starting regional groups and regional meetings, which is already well underway. It was also very useful to receive feedback on the types of training that members are looking for. This will feed into the 2017 event programme.

The member survey will also provide an insight on changes in satisfaction levels from year to year, as it will be repeated annually and compared to the results from previous years. Thanks again to those who took part. A summary report will be made available on this page in the new year.

To many of us, big data is a buzz word that has little practical meaning. In this e-update, we will explore what is meant by the term big data and the related concepts of Internet of Things, crowdsourcing and open data. But of course the main question for Mobility Management professionals is how big data can foster a behaviour change and influence transport policies. (Click below to read the e-update.)
