Upcoming Events

In this issue you'll hear about our 15 May workshop Demand Responsive Transport: From Dial-a-Ride to App-Based Startups taking place on 15 May at Highways England in Guildford, just before the South East regional meeting. Registration for both 15 May events is now open.

Also note our Call for Additional Regional Representatives (11 June workshop announcement), which is a great development opportunity.

You'll also hear about European Mobility Week 2019 (branded as TravelWise Week in the UK), our annual campaign taking place 16-22 September.

We held a very successful full-day training workshop 'Travel Planning and Parking Management for Universities and Hospitals' led by AECOM and hosted by University of Birmingham on 2 April, with nearly 40 delegates. It paid off to work with the EAUC and NHS bodies on the event, resulting in most delegates attending an Act TravelWise event for their first time.

As follow-up to that event, we have created an ongoing forum on Google Groups for transport managers at universities, hospitals and other workplaces to exchange information, experience and advice. Initially this is for those who registered to attend the 2 April workshop, but we will be opening it up to the wider membership. (Members will be informed soon.)

If you have ideas for other events/training or wish to lead one yourself, or if your company would like to sponsor one or more events or e-bulletins, please do get in touch. Thank you for reading!

Our Member Login Area on Acttravelwise.org is now populated with scores of guidance documents, conference presentations and other resources made available exclusively to members. If you're not already an Act TravelWise member, it's easy to join and you can do this by completing our Membership Form found on the website. Among other benefits, membership gives you a free place at all of our events throughout the year. You also get discounts on registration at our partners' events.

European Mobility Week / TravelWise Week 2019 Theme: "Safe Walking and Cycling"

Our bodies are designed to move, yet many of us struggle to find the time to get active during the day. We may find that much of our routine is made up of sitting: in traffic, at a desk, or in front of a screen. But what if we could integrate exercise into our daily life and save money at the same time?

This European Mobility Week puts the spotlight on safe walking and cycling and the benefits it can have for our health, our environment, and our bank balance! Active transport modes such as walking and cycling are emission-free and help to keep our hearts and bodies healthy.

Cities that promote walking and cycling over private vehicles have also been found to be more attractive, with less congestion and a higher quality of life.

In terms of individual health benefits, studies show that cyclists on average live two years longer than non-cyclists and take 15 percent fewer days off work through illness, while 25 minutes of brisk walking a day can add up to seven years to your life!

So this September, why not walk with us and experience the benefits for yourself?

Walking is the easy, low pollution transport that always gets you there on time. Organise a walk to work, hospital or University, to show how quick and healthy walking is.

Once again from 16-22 September, UK local campaign organisers will have a choice of using either the European Mobility Week or TravelWise Week branding. Campaign resources found at /travelwise-week/ will be updated for 2019.

Supplier Profile Forms Due by 1 May 2019

As there are a large number of suppliers (including consultants) among the Act TravelWise membership, we would like to more efficiently communicate the 'supplier offer' to the non-supplier members. This way everyone will have a clearer idea of the range of work conducted by each supplier, who to contact, and whether any member discounts are available. Our 'supplier profile form' will allow for this. If you are a member and a supplier, the form should be completed and returned by 1 May 2019.
