What are you doing on 21 June? Clean Air Day 2018 is about informing people about the health impacts of air pollution and encouraging people to take pollution-busting actions on 21 June. To help spread the word and enable action, Global Action Plan has developed a range of materials to make it as easy as possible, including posters, information leaflet, newsletter template text, sample tweets, social media memes, guide to running an event.
You can download the relevant toolkits containing these resources for free at https://www.cleanairday.org.uk/Pages/Category/free-resources
The actions people can take have no bounds, but as a start we suggest organisations get involved by:
- Talking to your central communications team about Clean Air Day: put the date in their diary and ask them to do social media (using the social media toolkit) in the build-up to, and on, 21 June; ask them to include messages about Clean Air Day in all internal and external communications channels e.g. newsletters, bulletins, letter from the CEO etc. Use #CleanAirDay and @cleanairdayuk to spread the word.
- Encouraging your colleagues/students/friends to leave the car at home and walk/cycle/take public transport to work, school etc. Reward those who do it with a free breakfast or some other form of recognition; make it easier for them by setting up a Stride and Ride arrangement on the day; organise a Walking Bus for school children.
- Hold an event to spread the word about Clean Air Day e.g. a stand in reception, a talk at lunchtime.
