Over 30 people attended the workshop on 21 April at the offices of DfT to hear the Department's Economic Appraisal experts introduce the recently launched Toolkit on appraisal of sustainable travel schemes and share their insights on what makes a good bid.
The workshop, which was exclusively for Act TravelWise members, was the first of a number of sessions that will be run across the UK in the coming months. Feedback from the event is currently being analysed and will used to inform the shape of the future sessions. In summary however delegates were very positive about having the opportunity to talk first hand to the Department's economic appraisal staff and welcomed the Toolkit. With the move toward LEPs and Local Growth Funding the Department's staff were during this initial workshop quick to stress that their insights were equally applicable in local funding discussions as well as nationally.
It is likely that future sessions will be much more of a roundtable format where local authorities will have an opportunity to share with the Department their views on the strengths and weaknesses of the appraisal and bidding process in addition to being able to explore the Department's views on how to increase the robustness of bidding documents.
If you are interested in registering your interest to attend future sessions please contact Randall Ghent (firstname.lastname@example.org) and keep an eye on future bulletins and the website for further details.
