Congratulations to Jean-Marc Poilpre from Essex and Jill Pollock from London for their winning entries in the Supermodals 2014 photo competition! Both winners were commended by the jury for capturing the Supermodals spirit and style and will receive four tickets each to this year’s Bestival (Isle of Wight, 4-7 September).
The jury was composed of Pauline Reeves, Deputy Director for Sustainable Accessible Travel at the Department for Transport, Simon Nurse, blogger and photographer from CycleStuff and Morgan Cummins, a UK-based creative and copywriter.
The jury described Jean-Marc Poilpre's photo as "very strong and interesting to look at thanks to the many elements in the frame". They also felt it sent out multiple messages – not only does it encourage cycling as a mode of transport but it also gives way to future thinking of our transport choices. They especially liked the inclusion of the Give Way sign which gives the photo a nice subtext as it suggests giving way to alternative means of transport.
Jill Pollock’s photo of friends on a bus was described as "a classic urban image of people sharing public transport and loving it". The jury praised it for its composition, with the group "capturing the essence of youth, exuberance and friendship" as well as for being "perfectly in tune with the theme of the Supermodals competition".
