ACT TravelWise Steps up Quest to Deliver Smarter Choices

ACT TravelWise, the UK's premier network for organisations working to promote sustainable travel, has made two major announcements as part of its work to deliver smarter transport choices.
Rhiân Davies has been appointed as the organisation's new Managing Director and her first task will be to oversee the implementation of the major strategic review of the direction of the organisation, its policy base and campaigning activities.
Rhiân Davies, the new Managing Director of ACT TravelWise, said:
"There is no question that leading ACT TravelWise is a huge honour but also a huge responsibility. We have achieved so much since we formed the organisation in 2008 but now is the time to show Government how Smarter Choices can deliver real transport choices in an age of austerity.
The review of our strategy has been built on the policies contained in the new Coalition Government's recent agreement as well as Norman Baker's brief at the Department for Transport and its outcome has shown how we can grasp the opportunity of working to change transport behaviours.
My appointment and the implementation of the strategic review are but the first stage in driving the smarter choices agenda forward. Together with our expert membership base we can make a difference."
Announcing the appointment, Neil Scales, Chair of ACT TravelWise said:
"The new Coalition has already thrown down the gauntlet and these announcements show that ACT TravelWise and its growing membership base are the ones which will be making the running.
We all know that money will be tight for everyone involved in the transport sector and this makes the role of smarter choices ever more important. If the Coalition Government is to deliver on its economic, social and environmental commitments then transport and smarter choices need to be taken more seriously.
The review of our strategy conducted by the board and Rhiân puts us in best place to deliver real transport choices in these tough times. Its implementation overseen by Rhiân will show the industry just what smarter choices can achieve, the measures needed to change behaviour and how we can get people to consider alternatives to travel.
Rhiân brings with her the expertise and know-how we need to drive smarter choices forward and her appointment and the review should be seen as a clear signal of intent."
