Give cycling a spin at the science park to catch the biking bug

Date submitted: 2 June 2010

Commuters working in the Cambridge Science Park area are invited to attend the Travel Plan
Plus Bicycle User Group (BUG) and give cycling a spin.

The BUG event, being held at the Royal Society of Chemistry on the 8 June 2010, from 11am to 2.30pm will have a large number of bikes available for new and novice cyclists to try out. In addition to trying out road, commuter, fold-up and hybrid bikes on test runs, experts will also be on hand to answer cycling questions and provide advice.

“If you are thinking about either cycling to work or for leisure, this event will help you decide which bike fits you best,” said Gary Armstrong, Coordinator for Travel Plan Plus (an EU project that is establishing a workplace travel network in the Science Park area of Cambridge).

Not only will this event help with getting people to try cycling, you can come along to point out cycling issues in the area, receive updates on upcoming Bike Week events and get advice on how to cycle better. All attendees will be entered into a prize draw for a TP+ Altura High
Visibility Jacket, provided courtesy of Taylor Vinters Solicitors.

Gary added, “There will be many bikes available, free for anyone to try out. It would be great to see a mass of people trying out different types of bikes, discovering that cycling is really a realistic option for commuting to work.”

Along with trying out new bikes, attendees will also be able to enter into the Cambridge Cycle Challenge. If you try out a few bikes for a total of 10 minutes, you qualify for the Challenge with the potential to win prizes. Vanessa Kelly, the Cambridge Cycle Challenge Coordinator
will also be there to hand out muffins and help you register for the Challenge.

The TP+ Bicycle User Group event is open to all commuters working in the Travel Plan Plus area, namely Cambridge Science Park, Cambridge Business Park, St John's Innovation Park, Cambridge Regional College and Taylor Vinters Solicitors. Commuters wishing to take part should contact the TP+ Commuter Centre located in the Cambridge Science Park Innovation Centre on 01223 427053 or email gary.armstrong@cambridgeshire.gov.uk.
