What Makes an Effective Bid for Active and Sustainable Travel Funding - 7 June 2016

Important: Event postponed due to low delegate numbers. New date to be announced.

Following on a well-received plenary presentation at the Act TravelWise Annual Conference, Helen Ramsden of Transport for Greater Manchester will be leading a workshop on how to write an effective funding bid. The workshop, being held on Tuesday 7 June from 11:15 am to 2:15 pm, is a timely opportunity to improve any funding proposals being prepared for the DfT Access Fund. Lunch is provided.

This session will be an opportunity to share experiences of bidding for funding for transport initiatives and to hear first hand from those at Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) about what's worked for them.

The workshop will start with a presentation on hints and tips from TfGM. There will then a series of interactive discussions where those attending will bring to the table their own thoughts and ideas based on their own experiences.

The questions that will be discussed include:

  • To bid or not to bid. That is the question.
  • What should happen before there's any preparation of bid material?
  • What happens if a bid fails?
  • What are the big no-no's in bidding?
  • Who should prepare the bid - are special skills needed?

The workshop will work through a hypothetical bid process as a way of bringing to the surface what's good, bad and ugly about different sorts of approaches.

Helen Ramsden and Julian Ashworth will present from TfGM and the session will be facilitated by Jon Foley, Vice Chair of Act TravelWise and Director of Transport and Mobility at BuroHappold Engineering.

The workshop is intended for those in local authority and other agencies who lead on or are involved in bidding for funding for transport initiatives.

Important: Event postponed due to low delegate numbers. New date to be announced.

Act TravelWise workshops are free for members sending one delegate. There will be a maximum capacity of 20 delegates. The workshop will be held at Transport for Greater Manchester, 2 Piccadilly Place, Manchester M1 3BG (opposite Piccadilly rail station). See location details.
