Economic Appraisal of Active and Sustainable Travel: An Insight from the Department for Transport’s Economists
Act TravelWise is delighted to offer this free workshop for members. It is aimed at local authority officers involved in compiling bids to the Department for Transport for the funding of active and sustainable travel initiatives. It is equally suitable for those involved in compiling local funding bids such as through LEPs.
The workshop follows up that delivered by the Department's Philipp Thiessen during our Autumn Conference last year. It will include a detailed introduction to the Department's recently published web-based economic appraisal toolkit and provide insights on what makes a good bid for funding for sustainable and active travel initiatives from the perspective of the Department's economists. The Department's senior policy officers will also be at the session to provide an overview and context for the appraisal element.
With this in mind, there will be three elements to the session:
- Overview of the Toolkit including a tutorial on how to get the best from it.
- Insights from the Department's economists on what makes a good funding bid from their perspective.
- An opportunity to try out the toolkit with the Department's experts on-hand to deal with any queries.
To get the most from the session, delegates are encouraged to bring current or previous economic appraisals and also their own laptops, tablets or other wi-fi enabled devices. Unfortunately the Department is not able to provide this equipment.
