Traffic management is an area of transport policy that is currently seeing plenty of new
thinking aimed at reducing traffic disruption and improving the efficiency of the road
network. The appeal of a more efficiently managed road network transcends the political
divide, with the main parties all seemingly keen to empower highway authorities to tackle
the perennial challenges of delays caused by road and street works, the flouting of traffic
and parking regulations, and the inefficient operation of junctions from the perspective of
both motorist and pedestrian.
Important developments have taken place since Local Transport Today’s last traffic
management conference held in July 2009: the first permit schemes have been introduced
in London and Kent, lane rental has moved onto the agenda, pedestrian countdown is
being trialled and the removal of traffic signals in certain locations is being given serious
consideration.
This conference will bring together leading practitioners in the field of traffic management
and enforcement for a series of presentations that will cover these latest case studies,
research findings and policy developments. Attendance is essential for all those involved
in traffic management.
