2009 has been a big year for Bus Rapid Transit in the UK. The Cambridgeshire Guided Bus (CGB) and Swansea ftrMetro started public service, and the Luton-Dunstable scheme moved into the implementation phase. Preparation for major new schemes in East London, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, the West of England and elsewhere has moved forward apace whilst in places as diverse as Kent Thameside, Crawley, Bradford, Leeds, and Runcorn, BRT or “BRT Like” schemes building on proven technologies and integrated with other public transport services in their areas continued to provide reliable transit service.
BRTuk’s 5th Annual Conference is in Cardiff, an aspiring sustainable transport city and seat of the devolved Welsh Government, co-funders of ftrMetro in neighbouring Swansea. An excellent programme focussed on delivery and operation of BRT has been assembled with presentations highlighting BRT systems in the UK and around the world. The Conference will also mark the first of the new BRTuk Bursaries.
As usual, the conference delivers excellent value with prices having been held at last year’s levels and additional discounts for up to two further delegates from the same organisation. New members can take advantage of a conference/membership package taking them through to April 2011. So join us at the Hilton Hotel, Cardiff on Monday 30th November and Tuesday 1st December for the latest in BRTuk’s “don’t miss” series of conferences.
