The global economic downturn has had a significant effect on the funding for transport schemes and service delivery and these impacts are likely to increase as central and local Government completes detailed spending reviews and finds ways to reduce total expenditure. All of the main political parties are made public statements indicating cuts in public spending will be necessary and this conference is designed to evaluate and examine the likely impacts of these fiscal changes on the transport sector. The speakers will focus on their experiences of planning for the likely changes in transport budget, the evaluation of reduced spending in the transport sector and the impacts and efficiencies they have identified. It is going to be increasing difficult to secure revenue and capital funding for transport projects so how do we ensure they don’t fall to the bottom of the agenda?
On 18th November, this conference will offer a unique opportunity to hear from a wide range of speakers and decision makers from Central Government, Local Government and the bus industry about how we can continue to enhance transport service delivery despite increasing budgetary pressure.
Topics include organisational structures, balancing budgets between service areas, making the best use of the 2008 Local Transport Act and LTP3 process and getting the best value for money from concessionary fares.
Why You Should Attend
It is clear that the economic downturn is going to result in a reduction in the total amount of money available for the delivery of public sector services. This reduction in spending is going to have an impact on the structure and delivery of transport services and this conference explores these likely impacts and provides insight into case studies where these changes are being managed effectively.
This conference will provide an opportunity for the generation and discussion of ideas on how to maintain service delivery and ensure the carbon reduction and accessibility objectives are still achieved.
