The aim of the course is to raise the level of good design practice for cycle traffic. The course will draw on Department for Transport Cycle Infrastructure Design LTN 02/08, Transport for London Cycling Design Standards (LCDS) and Lancashire - the cyclists' county.
The objective of the course is to provide an understanding of the needs of cycle users, the philosophy and principles of good planning and design for cycle traffic, and to encourage creativity and innovative quality design, within legal constraints, to encourage more cycle users.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course participants will have:
ÔøΩ a greater appreciation of the benefits of cycling and links to local and national transport strategies.
ÔøΩ a better understanding of the needs of all types of cycle users
ÔøΩ a greater understanding of the philosophy and practicality of good design for cycle traffic.
ÔøΩ an ability to design networks and facilities that will assist cycle users and create direct, comfortable, safe and attractive routes.
ÔøΩ greater awareness of the importance of innovative thinking and innovative solutions within legal constraints.
ÔøΩ an improved ability of designers to present, communicate and defend their designs.
ÔøΩ the ability to equip and empower engineers and planners to make decisions utilising good judgement and to identify and manage risk

Who should attend?
ÔøΩ Local authority civil, highway and traffic engineers and technicians with at least two years experience in the design of highway projects, or
ÔøΩ Local authority transport planners who have responsibility for preparing detailed briefs for designers, or
ÔøΩ Consultants advising or designing cycle schemes for clients
