News
Here is a round up of the recent activity in our region:

Workplace Travel Planning: Six of the South West authorities are now in possession of the I-Trace system and will now standardise the way travel plans are evaluated and monitored.  Work has started on SPDs for development related travel plans in Somerset, and a spin off travel plan officers group meet separately to concentrate on this area.  School Travel Planning: Almost all mainstream schools in the South West region now have a travel plan, and authorities are on track to hit their 100% target this March.  Somerset intend to approach schools who won’t engage with the STP process to sign a refusal letter, and would be interested to hear from other authorities experiencing the same problem.  Public Transport Information and Marketing: Many new travel maps published across the region, promoting Traveline text service, new routes and services, new infrastructure etc.South Gloucestershire launched a youth concessionary fares scheme trial in 3 secondary schools. Due to roll out to all of South Gloucestershire in April 2010. The scheme gives 14-18 year olds half price fares on evening, weekend and school holidays.  Travel Awareness Campaigns

The four authorities involved in the “JamBusting June” campaign are unsure whether it will run this year – all are struggling to find officer time to organise.  However, a survey of all previous participants shows that the campaign is cost effective and changes behaviour.

Car Clubs: Streetcar is looking to launch in Bristol in March. They will be in direct competition with City Car Club.  At the moment Bristol are looking at 150 bays in total for Bristol by mid 2011 which would give Bristol the largest number of bays outside of London.  Cornwall are currently investigating the potential of creating an electric car club and associated infrastructure.

Teleworking and TeleconferencingAs a large geographical region, the South West teleconferenced their last regional meeting with a connection between Bristol and Cornwall.  It was considered a success!

Council office moves in three authorities means more remote and home working planned, with hot desking, increased flexibility, web and audio conferencing. Could have big impact on travel habits and car parking.
