London
The ACT TravelWise London Region was launched in February at an event
attended by over 50 representatives from local government, consultants and
private sector organisations.
London is one of the most active regions for Smarter Choices work, and it
was suggested and agreed that this group should be more private sector
focused to distinguish it from existing networks. A key task is to engage
with the business community and Transport for London has offered to
introduce the members of their successful Corporate and Enterprise scheme
to the network.
A Steering Group has been formed to represent the different sections of the
membership; Sarah Clifford from TTR, Fuad Omar from LB Harrow, David
Helmore from TfL, and Theo Panayi from BAA Heathrow accepted the position
of chairman. We are also keen to seek representatives from Health,
Education and small business to this group in the future.
The broad aims of the network were agreed as:
Networking
Knowledge
Support
Review and monitor
Influence policy
Within these broad aims the group would aim to support travel plans and
travel planners to help make them more effective, and to engage with
business.
The next meeting will be at The Millennium Gloucester Hotel on the morning
of June 25th starting at 8.30am which will focus on the business case for
travel planning and all London based organisations interested in Smarter
Choices are welcome to attend. With the kind support of TfL this will be a
free event.
