Local Sustainable Transport Fund

This year the department for transport received 73 bids to Tranche One of the Local Sustainable Transport Fund from 66 lead authorities. All bids were for small projects requiring less than £5m funding from DfT. 12 bids were submitted as "key components" to large projects.

The Local Sustainable Transport Fund was set up by Government to support local schemes and projects that encourage sustainable travel. The successful projects supported include a range of initiatives like smart ticketing, facilities for electric vehicles, rail and bus improvements, and measures to support and encourage walking and cycling.

This year 39 projects received funding from a pot of £155 million. 34 proposals were funded in full and a further 5 proposals will be funded in part. 13 proposals were seen to have potential when scored against the criteria and will be invited to improve their offer and resubmit to the Department in February 2012.
