Regional Walk to School Coordinator
£23,818 - £30,554 per annum - Reporting to: Walk to School Manager - Length of contract: 2 years, with extension subject to funding.
We're looking for a dedicated and committed person to oversee the rollout of our successful Walk once a Week (WoW) scheme. The Regional Coordinator will act as a point-of-contact for local authorities and schools, as well as deal with the administration of the project on a day-to-day basis.
One of the key parts of the role will be building relationships with stakeholders within local authorities and strategic partnerships.
The successful candidate will need to undergo an enhanced CRB clearance as this role will involve some working with children.
Main purpose of work
To work as a member of the team, launching and ensuring the smooth delivery of the new scheme in their region.
- The Regional Coordinator is being recruited to deliver the scheme across a number of target local authority areas within region.
The post holder will act as a key contact for their region, liaising with schools, local authorities and other stakeholders. The post holder will be responsible for organising the distribution of scheme resources to schools and supporting them in the implementation of the scheme. Key responsibilities will also include building partnerships with local authorities and stakeholders to secure long term investment in the scheme. This will be a varied role and an ability to embrace a diversity of tasks is essential.
Main duties and Responsibilities: Delivering scheme activities in the region
- Support up to 250 schools in the North-East region to deliver and administer the scheme
- Meet with some individual schools to run specific outreach activities on a regular basis
- Deliver assemblies or presentations when required
- Liaise with distributors to order and allocate the scheme materials to schools before each term begins
- Run events during key calendar times, such as Walk to School Week and Month
- Help develop and trial various outreach materials whilst monitoring their effectiveness
Developing local partnerships
- Approach and establish a group of key stakeholders from public, private and third sectors with the aim of securing long term investment and funding, e.g. Primary Care Trusts, local authorities etc. This will become increasingly important during the second year of delivery
- Develop and maintain relationships with local authorities and school travel teams to ensure smooth roll out of WoW
Monitoring and evaluation
- Monitor and evaluate the scheme at each school, including gathering baseline data and setting up systems for storing and managing data. This will involve working with an external evaluation agency
- Share learning's to help develop learning and general Walk to School resources
Other
- The post holder may be required by their manager to undertake other duties, from time to time, within the general scope of the post

- Pension - 5% employer contribution (employee contribution not compulsory).

Person specification
Essential - Applicants must be able to demonstrate:
- Experience and confidence in working with primary school children including excellent presentation skills
- Experience of working with local authorities and maintaining partnerships. Confidence dealing with people at all levels.
- An understanding of the primary school environment
- Ability to project manage
- Experience of data management and monitoring, evaluation and report writing
- Strong time-management skills
- Ability to work remotely and with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with people from a variety of technical/professional backgrounds
- Excellent IT skills
- Knowledge of school travel issues and an understanding of and commitment to Living Streets agenda
