Based in the Policy team within, you will have an exciting and key role in developing the growing environmental agenda and helping to deliver a sustainable transport system across the region.
Dealing with internal and external policy related to environmental sustainability and transport. Influencing how transport will develop across the region in response to the ever growing environment and sustainability agenda and within a low carbon economy for the UK. You will have a degree in a relevant discipline with 2 years proven experience in the environmental field. With a working knowledge of the major transport and environment issues such as air quality, clean/alternative fuels and low carbon solutions. The post requires excellent presentation and analytical skills to enable information to be considered and acted upon by a variety of audiences, both within the company and with external partners.
Main Purpose of the Job
To support the development and implementation of the company's public transport policies and the implementation of the associated strategies in relation to environmental sustainability.
Responsible for promoting and developing the company input into low carbon and sustainable transport across the region both internally and with external Partners.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. To provide policy advice on low carbon and environmentally sustainable transport in-line with local, national and internal strategy and best practice.
2. Liaise with all sections within the company on policy development and implementation with respect to our environmental agenda and that of partners and other interested parties.
3. To support and provide input into the development of low carbon transport across the region.
4. To project manage consultants undertaking research studies and projects.
5. To represent the company locally, nationally and internationally and contribute to appropriate environmental and sustainability fora.
6. To analyse, prepare and present information and formal reports internally and to external bodies.
7. To deputise for and provide support to other members of the Environment Team as required in the development and delivery of the work of the environment team.
8. Any other duties of a similar nature appropriate to the agreed grading level.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
1. Degree or equivalent in relevant environmental subject.
2. Experience in driving forward environmental sustainability projects.
3. Commitment and enthusiasm for environmental issues and transport.
4. Good knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation, particularly in relation to transport.
5. Excellent inter-personal and communication skills and be a team player.
6. Excellent analytical, report writing and presentational skills. Desirable Criteria
1. Working knowledge of public sector and some experience of environmental sustainability, specifically the low carbon/climate change agenda.
2. Knowledge of wider transport and environment issues such as air quality, alternative fuels.
3. Experience of multi-disciplinary working in public sector.
4. Working knowledge of current issues in low carbon transport agenda.
5. Knowledge of public transport/sustainable transport sector.
6. Computer literate and experience in using variety of software packages.
