Active Travel Co-ordinator (Example)

 

Active Travel Co-ordinator 

£22,000 - £25,000 per annum - 37.5 hours per week - maternity cover - Paid/Fixed Term contract - Full time
 
Active Travel Co-ordinator will lead and maintain a range of measures and approaches to promote walking and cycling amongst local communities, to increase physical activity levels and improve public health and wellbeing. 
 
Committed to physical activity and sustainable transport, you will be able to engage with and motivate people and be a proven self-starter. You will also have experience of project and budget management, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be proficient at delivering projects by working with a range of partners from different sectors. IT literacy is essential and a health sector background would be an advantage. 

Place in Organisation Structure:

The post holder will report to the Regional Director, with support from the Active Travel Projects Co-ordinator and colleagues

Key Relationships:

Internal: Regional Director, Active Travel Projects Co-ordinator, Active Travel Director, Other Active Travel staff, Other Company staff

External: City Council (Transport, Planning, Parks and Leisure Services), City Primary Care Trust, GP surgeries, Community School, Community Centre

                                   

Key Responsibilities:

1. To work in partnership with the public sector, voluntary organisations and local communities to establish a demonstration project that encourages and enables the most sedentary members of the community to benefit from increased levels of activity. The post holder will be encouraging and supporting local residents to engage in the physically active forms of travel, such as walking and cycling, through establishing a practical project.

2. To develop and co-ordinate a comprehensive programme of activities to promote walking and cycling on the new and existing multi-use paths, and those being developed by the City Council and the company.

3. To work closely with the Active Options team to expand their existing exercise on GP referral programme to include cycling.

4. To work closely with the new Health Trainers to promote and encourage active travel in the local communities.

5. To collaborate with colleagues and external partners, supporting them with advice and evidence from the project, so as to assist in bringing forward policies and projects to encourage more walking and cycling

6. To provide information on outcomes to enable evaluation of the project.

7. To recruit, organise and train a cadre of volunteers from the local community to support the programme of activities.

8. To support and comply with the organisation's Policy for the management of Health and Safety.

9. To work in accordance with the arrangements described in the organisation's health and safety management system including any project or department specific requirement.

 

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Computer literacy
  • A dynamic and creative approach
  • Experience of delivering projects with different partners from different sectors
  • Committed to physical activity and sustainable transport

 

Desirable:

  • Health sector background and experience, ideally in health promotion / development or community development
  • First aid training (HSE approved)
  • Walk leader training
  • Qualified Bikeability cycle instructor
  • Full driving licence
