How do you become a travel planner?
There are a number ways that you can get into travel planning or sustainable transport as it remains a fairly open field with lots of options and links branching off from its core.
Some people will fall into the field from a parallel sector or take on a travel planning role at work when given the chance but the majority will first get some training in the field either through a course at University or with ACT TravelWise or a similar agent.
Once you have some education in the field it is time to start looking for that first job to start building your career.
One good place to start is at a careers fair as many reputable companies will have a stall and be looking for impressive potential employees.
Firstly you need to find out when these careers fairs are and identify who you want to work for or what jobs you have in mind. It is important to look smart and act keen with relevant questions. Even if some companies aren't recruiting it is a great chance to speak to people in the field, get an idea of the field, build some contacts and find out when a good time to apply is or what steps to take next.
Most companies will allow you to register on their own website and then you will be alerted of new potential jobs and be able to apply online or find out how to apply.
Certain jobs in travel planning and sustainable transport are advertised through job websites. It is important to check these sites regularly as new jobs can become available at any time.
