Mark Cartwright
Mark is a founder Director of Centaur Consulting Limited, a Surrey-based company which provides strategic technology and policy services. He is a mathematician by training, and a Chartered Engineer.
Mark began his professional life in the academic world, where he taught mathematics at the Universities of Oxford and Nottingham.
As a consultant, Mark has worked for clients in defence, telecoms, broadcasting, finance and energy sectors, at European, national and local levels. For the past fifteen years, his main area of interest has been transport technology, and he is currently involved in the management and development of numerous national initiatives: UTMC for traffic management, the public transport community RTIG, and RSSB's Operational Communications programme for GB Rail.
Mark is married, with two daughters.
Andrew Hemmings
Andrew Hemmings was responsible for Sustainable Transport in the Welsh Assembly Government from 2001. He dealt with Transport Policy formulation and implementation for Road Safety , Walking and Cycling , Bus and Community Transport, Concessionary Fares , " Smarter Choices " and Freight. As Chair of TravelWise Cymru, he hosted a very successful National Conference in Cardiff and promoted Sustainable Travel across the United Kingdom.
Following his retirement in 2008, Andrew has taken paid appointments at Atkins as a Senior Transport Consultant, working on Transport Planning and Rail Services in Wales. As well as being the National Officer Cymru/ Wales for the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILTUK).
Andrew has also taken up unpaid posts as a chair for Transport Planning Society Cymru. He is also a board member of ACT TravelWise, Vice Chair of the Advisory Body for Newport Harbour Commissioners and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
Charlotte Humphries
Growing up in a railway family gave Charlotte her interest in transport and she worked for British Rail and train operating company's pre and pro privatisation; Great Eastern Railways, LTS Rail now C2C.
Charlotte's first role in Sustainable Travel was as Travel Plan Coordinator for Southend University Hospital NHS Trust in 2006, where she founded the MoveEasy Network and NHS Travel Planner Network. In 2008 Charlotte became Sustainable School Travel Manager for Essex County Council managing the walking bus, Safer Journeys to School and School Travel Adviser teams.
Charlotte is currently Transport Policy Coordinator for Southend, Loughton and Colchester campuses of the University of Essex and is currently undertaking an MSc in Sustainable Travel and Transport Planning at Loughborough University.
Alex Veitch
Alex Veitch has been working in the environmental transport field for over 10 years. He began his career as a lobbyist and campaigner on climate change issues in the United States, before returning to the UK where he has held the roles of Energy & Transport Policy Officer for the RSPB, and Transport Strategy Manager for the Energy Saving Trust. In 2007 Alex joined the Association of Train Operating Companies as Integrated Transport Manager, where he developed the Station Travel Plan concept. Alex is currently on a secondment to the International Union of Railways in Paris as the Head Sustainable Development Unit.
Catherine Warwick-Wilson
Catherine was schooled in her home country of South Africa where she studied journalism and PR. She worked at Deloitte & Touche in Johannesburg and McKinsey & Company in London before joining GlaxoSmithKline in 2004. Catherine has worked in the Worldwide Real Estate and Facilities department since then and is now responsible for co-ordinating transport strategy and developing the company's longstanding travel plans across sites in West London and Surrey. Catherine is a passionate believer that cycling can be a lifestyle choice in which lycra need not feature!
